Winter transfer window 2025: country-by-country dates and rules for the Champions League

The 2025 winter transfer window will open on Wednesday January 1, 2025 for French clubs. They will have until Monday February 3 at 11 p.m. to complete their transfers. These dates were adopted in June 2024 by the Board of Directors of the Professional League.

The window will be approximately the same in the other European championships, with, however, some small variations.

A gap for Russia, Switzerland or Poland

In England and Germany, the 2025 winter transfer window will also open on January 1. It will close on February 3. In Italy and Spain, the transfer window will begin on January 2, 2025 and end on February 3. The transfer opening period will run from January 2 to February 4 in Portugal. In Belgium, it will be from January 7 to February 3.

Other championships open their transfer window over a slightly staggered period. This is the case for Switzerland: transfers will be possible between January 15 and February 17. For Russia, it will be between January 23 and February 20, and between January 23 and February 22 for Poland.

Champions League: what restrictions for players recruited this winter?

It should be noted that clubs participating in the Champions League will not be able to field players recruited during this winter transfer window in the group stage. These players recruited during the winter window will not be eligible for these last two matches, scheduled for January 21 and 22, then the 29th. They will only be able to play with their new club, in the Champions League, from the play-offs and during the elimination phase. Each club will be able to register a maximum of three new qualified players.
