David Lappartient, a French outsider for the presidency

David Lappartient certainly did not think he would launch into the battle so early. But the announcement, on August 10 – the eve of the closing of the Olympic Games -, by the German Thomas Bach, that he would not seek a new mandate at the head of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has somewhat precipitated the ambitions of the Breton. Who didn’t think long. “When President Bach drew up the profile of the ideal candidate, I recognized part of myself in this profile. That made me go there. »

In mid-September, the head of the French National Olympic and Sports Committee (CNOSF) was officially a candidate for the presidency of the IOC for an eight-year term, along with six other members of the Lausanne body: Jordanian prince Feisal Al -Hussein, the Briton Sebastian Coe, the Zimbabwean Kirsty Coventry, the Anglo-Swede Johan Eliasch, the Spaniard Juan Antonio Samaranch and the Japanese Morinari Watanabe.

For three months, David Lappartient and his rivals have been campaigning, discreetly and within the very strict framework authorized by the IOC (no advertising, no public debate between the candidates, reduced use of social networks, etc.). All the candidates sent an application document to the IOC on Saturday December 14 – posted online on Wednesday December 18 – before having a grand oral in front of their peers on January 30, 2025.
