The family of Reeva Steenkamp, a South African model killed by Oscar Pistorius in 2013, is worried to see the former Paralympic athlete appear with a new girlfriend who very closely resembles his former partner.
A little less than a year after his release from prison, Oscar Pistorius seems to have found love again. Several South African media attribute him to a link with Rita Greyling, a 33-year-old business management consultant from Wakkerstroom (South Africa). And the physical resemblance of his new partner to Reeva Steenkamp, his former partner whom he killed with a gun on the night of February 13 to 14, 2013, makes the latter’s family jump.
“He has it in him to do what he did to Reeva again.”
“I just look at the photos of this woman and I have goosebumps and shivers down my spine right now,” Simone Cowburn, Reeva Steenkamp’s older sister, told the press in recent days. “She looks so much like my Reeva. She has the same build, the same face and the same hair, even the same eyes. Is he so sick that he wanted to find a lookalike?”
The mother of Reeva Steenkamp, a former model and television personality who died at the age of 29, was also stunned. “I don’t understand how she doesn’t see any warning signs about him when he hasn’t lost his anger problem,” lamented June Steenkamp. “He was supposed to be on anger control when he was in prison and at one point I stopped him from going out because I was annoyed that he wasn’t getting treatment. It’s not painful for “I’m just worried about him being with this young woman.”
“I have nothing against her, but I advise her to sleep with one eye open,” continues Simone Cowburn. “He has it in him to do what he did to Reeva again and I don’t want that to happen again. I’m so shocked that he chose a woman who looks so much like my Reeva. I can’t “stop thinking that after getting rid of one Reeva, he went looking for another.”
Oscar Pistorius was a symbol and star of world sport at the time of the events in 2013. Born without a fibula and amputated below the knees, he had won six Paralympic titles before being authorized to run with the able-bodied over 400m during the Olympic Games in London in 2012. Less than a year later, he shot Reeva Steenkamp, with whom he had been in a relationship for three months. According to prosecutors, the model took refuge in the toilet after a violent argument. Pistorius, the only witness, always claimed that it was a terrible accident: he did not know that his girlfriend had gotten up to go to the toilet and he mistook her for a dangerous intruder behind the door .
He was found guilty of murder and sentenced to thirteen years and five months in prison in 2017, after a first conviction of five years for manslaughter in 2014, judged as “scandalously lenient” by the prosecution. Pistorius was released from prison on January 5 on conditional release. He has since lived with his uncle in the chic suburbs of Pretoria. “He is trying to rebuild his life discreetly, avoiding bars, restaurants and the general public, and goes unnoticed,” a source told the Telegraph. “He is slowly trying to reintegrate into society, but it is happening through families his family has been close to for decades.” It would be through this means that he met his new partner, whose resemblance makes Reeva Steenkamp’s family shudder.
