The ball thrown out of bounds by Freddie Freeman to give the Los Angeles Dodgers victory in Game 1 of the last World Series has just been sold for $1.56 million at auction.

This was announced by SCP Auctions in a press release published on Sunday. The identity of the buyer of the precious collector’s item has not been revealed.

At the bottom of the 10th inning during the first game of the final major league series in 2024, Freeman came to the plate when his team was trailing 3-2 against the New York Yankees. The bases were loaded and there were already two outs.

Additionally, the Dodgers first baseman was dealing with a sprained right ankle. Freeman drove Nestor Cortes’ pitched ball 413 feet from home plate, becoming the first player in major league baseball history to hit a grand slam to end a World Series game.

Freeman’s historic ball is the second ball related to the Dodgers-Yankees showdown to be sold at auction recently. On Friday, the ball dropped by Aaron Judge during Game 5 of the World Series found a buyer for $43,510.

Also remember that a ball hit by Dodgers star player Shohei Ohtani set a new record. The item sold for nearly $4.4 million last October. This is the ball that allowed him to become the first player to hit 50 home runs and steal 50 bases in a single season.
