The three employee deaths at the first site of electric battery manufacturer Northvolt in northern Sweden are not believed to be linked to exposure to a hazardous substance.

At least that’s what several Swedish media reported on Monday.
A 33-year-old man, who worked as a floor technician at Northvolt Ett – the gigafactory currently under construction in Skelleftea – was found dead on January 5 in his bed, according to Swedish media, AFP reported.
A month later, on February 22, a 19-year-old man also died in his sleep, shortly after the end of his shift.
Police opened two separate investigations at the time, concluding that the deaths were unrelated to each other or their workplace.
The lifeless body of a third employee, aged 59, was discovered at his home on June 5, according to Swedish media.
The two previous investigations were reopened last June and a third was underway. The police then added that they would examine whether there was “a possible link” between them.
The police had specified that they would examine whether one of the deceased had been “exposed to a substance”.
Forensic analyzes would show that there is no indication that a dangerous substance could be at the origin of the cause of death, according to police statements on Monday.
Swedish police said on their website that forensic examination failed to provide a clear answer as to the cause of their deaths.
If the cause of the third death of the 59-year-old employee has still not been determined, the police specified that “nothing indicates that the cause of death was due to exposure to a dangerous substance.”
According to evidence obtained during the investigation, the death was natural, caused by an illness and the police did not suspect criminal acts.
