In an interview given to BFM Marseillethe Reunion Islander wanted to pay tribute to Jacques-Henri Eyraud, the former Marseille president, who had done everything to repatriate him to France. “He’s the one who told me, ‘I want you to come back and I’ll do whatever it takes for you to come back,’” remembers Dimitri Payet before adding: “We fought until the last moment, but he never gave up. »
The 37-year-old spoke of the difficulties encountered during this negotiation, but also the insistence of Eyraud and shareholder Frank McCourt which made it possible to finalize this “consequential” transfer. “It is an eternal gratitude that I have towards President Eyraud and towards the shareholder,” he underlined.
