Michael Hage meets all the expectations that Montreal Canadiens fans had of him for his first year in the NCAA.
Let’s say he’s doing pretty well, he who never stops scoring.
Just Saturday evening, the Habs prospect scored the goal in overtime, his 10th goal of the season. And all that, in 15 short matches.
10 goals in 15 matches gives an average of 0.67 goals per match…
Not bad for a freshman.
His goal average per game places him second in the entire NCAA.
The only one in front of him? Ryan Leonard (0.75), drafted 8th overall a year before Hage and who is in his second NCAA season.
On the other hand, what is even more striking in his case is that he scores profusely despite the fact that he plays less than 15 minutes per game on average this season.
Grant McCagg, The Sick Podcast – Recrutes Draftcastdelved into the advanced statistics of the great prospect from Sainte-Flanelle and came out with a beautiful nugget.
Hage leads the league (by far) in goals scored per 60 minutes of play.
And it is with this statistic that we can see everyone at the same level and that we understand that the right-handed center is really in a class of his own.
In the latest episode of the podcast, which you can listen to right here, McCagg announces that Hage is at 2.85 goals per 60 minutes played.
We were talking about Ryan Leonard earlier, he who has the best average per game. Well the “sophomore” is at 2.08 goals per 60 minutes.
The difference is truly incredible.
As McCagg said, that’s almost one more goal for every 60 minutes of play.
Interestingly, Hage has no fewer than four game-winning goals this season, which places him tied for 4th in the league.
The three players in front of him have given his team victories five times, and that includes Ryan Leonard.
The Habs can be pleased to see how comfortable Hage is in his first year in the university world.
The future looks bright for the 18-year-old center.
