The skipper of the trimaran Edmond de Rothschild was appointed this Monday evening at the Olympia.
An Olympic gold medal would surely have been a game-changer. But Lauriane Nolot, World and European champion, “only” won the silver medalist at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games in kitesurfing. And the Southerner, named sailor of the year in 2023, will not score a nice double. On the stage of the Olympia, this Monday evening, the 2024 crown was placed on the head of Charles Caudrelier, the skipper of the trimaran Edmond de Rothschild, winner of the Arkea Ultim Challenge, the first solo round the world race contested in Ultimate.
The winner of the 2022 Route du rhum triumphed on February 27 in Brest after dominating head and mast a first edition which too quickly lost its flavor with the breakage of the various protagonists. To the point of being able to make a three-day technical stopover in the Azores before victoriously concluding his world tour with still almost 3 days ahead of Thomas Coville (Sodebo). And despite his cessation, his race time remains impressive: 50 days 19 hours 37 minutes and 42 seconds.
A new trimaran
The title of sailor of the year 2024 chosen by the public and a jury of specialists confirms in any case all the talent of Charles Caudrelier, former winner of the Solitaire du Figaro, and the success of his Gitana team, while a new trimaran is under construction.
