Étoile Filante de Lomé made a great comeback this Sunday evening away against Tambo FC, marking its return to D1 Lonato.
The Shooting Star of Lomé made its highly anticipated return to the Togolese elite, after almost a decade in the lower division. It was during an away match, in Atakpamé.
Supported by a wave of supporters who made the trip to the Atakpamé municipal stadium, Étoile proved worthy in this duel about 160 km north of the Togolese capital.
Tambo FC take the lead in the first half
However, it was the Blues of the capital who took the water first, conceding the opener. A goal from Philippe Togbui after 19 minutes gave the Étoilistes a slight taste of what they should expect in the first division.
Tambo FC managed to maintain this slim lead until the break. But, upon returning from the locker room, the Lomé Shooting Star proved that it had prepared for this symbolic match.
Famah launches the little comeback
More than ten minutes after returning from the break, Djamiou Famah equalized in the 58th in favor of the most successful team in Togo’s first division championship. This realization sparked what would be a small comeback from the Shooting Star.
As the match was coming to an end, Alain Davy Attiogbe scored the saving goal in the 84th minute for the 2-1. This achievement sealed the first victory for Étoile Filante de Lomé for its first in D1 Lonato, after almost ten years of absence.
In Togo, the Togolese first division resumed this weekend with Étoile Filante de Lomé and the 13 other clubs involved. Reigning champion, Kara’s ASKO, for her part, made an entry misstep.
