After a week where the attention was more on the possible conflicts within the offensive unit of the Philadelphia Eagles, the main players took great measures to ensure that everyone had a smile on Sunday.
Jalen Hurts and AJ Brown teamed up to lead the Eagles to their 10th straight victory with a 27-13 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Philadelphia thus presents a record of 12-2 and joins the Detroit Lions (12-2) at the top of the National Association since they lost against the Buffalo Bills. Despite the loss, the Steelers are assured of a playoff spot due to losses to the Indianapolis Colts and Miami Dolphins.
After their win last week against the Carolina Panthers, receiver AJ Brown simply said in the locker room that the aerial game needed to improve. It was then mentioned in the media this week that the relationship between receiver and quarterback, Jalen Hurts, was not at its best.
It’s unclear if the two men have worked it out, but the chemistry was at least present on the field Sunday in Philadelphia. Brown accepted Hurts’ pass in the end zone for five yards to make it 10 to 3 Eagles in the 1st quarter.
Hurts continued the charge with the aerial game. He eventually connected with DeVonta Smith for two yards for another touchdown and Philly extended its lead to 14 points.
After struggling to advance the ball in attack at the start of the match, the Steelers offensive unit showed signs of life before retreating to the locker room with 10 unanswered points. Pat Freiermuth scored a touchdown after a pass from Russell Wilson.
After touchdown passes, Hurts completed the job himself with the 13th play of a series in the fourth quarter with a rushing touchdown to make it 27-13 Eagles.
Brown finished his game with 110 yards on eight catches, just ahead of teammate Smith’s 109 yards on 11 receptions. Hurts completed 25 of 32 passes for 290 yards.
The match was much more complicated for Wilson with 14 passes caught out of his 22 throws. Pittsburgh has a record of 10-4 and has a slim priority over the Baltimore Ravens (9-5) at the top of the North division of the American.
There are still elements to monitor in the state of health of certain players. Running back Saquon Barkley missed several minutes of play in the second quarter after being examined by team trainers. The running back was limited to 65 rushing yards on 19 carries.
In the fourth quarter, Brown was tackled by a rival and fell backwards, appearing to injure himself in the sequence. However, he was seen standing on the sidelines with his teammates.
