Eleven times second. Such was Monaco’s frustrating “record” in the 5-star GPs before setting off this Sunday on the Palexpo track in the CHI Geneva Grand Prix. But, this time, no one was able to do better than the 15-year-old Westphalian gelding, ridden by Harrie Smolders at the top of his art, who therefore picked up the most prestigious victory in this last round of the Grand Slam of the year. The Dutchman was two seconds ahead of the Italian Giulia Martinengo Marquet (Delta Del’Isle) and the Belgian Gilles Thomas (Ermitage Kalone), also clear.

Harrie Smolders will no doubt remember for a long time this Grand Prix which ultimately hung by a thread. The Dutchman could also very well have lost all his chances from the first obstacle of the first round, on which Monaco almost made a mistake with his front legs, causing the bar to move back and forth on the spoon. But the pole did not fall and the couple negotiated the next 26 efforts to perfection, including the jump-off carried out at full speed.
