The Fribourgeois and the Valaisan took 1st and 2nd places during the vertical in Courchevel on Sunday. An excellent start to the season for the French-speaking duo.

Rémi Bonnet started this season as he finished the last: with a victory in the vertical in Courchevel on Sunday. For the occasion, the double world champion in the discipline was accompanied on the podium by his compatriot Aurélien Gay, celebrating his best World Cup result in two years.

The Fribourgeois set a huge time of 19’47″9 to finish with a large lead of almost two minutes over his compatriot. “I know the course very well now and know exactly where I need to push a little more. It was a huge advantage and that’s why I was so fast,” explains the skier from Charmey at the end of the effort. “But I really reached my limits and it was the first time I dropped to the ground at the finish. »

The Valaisan was just as happy with his performance. “The management team was great and we were very well supported throughout the course. So I was able to give my all until the end and am very happy to be able to start the season with a podium. »

The Swiss in retreat

Frenchman Xavier Gachet completed the podium a few seconds later. On the Swiss side, Thomas Bussard again took a good 6th place, followed by his twin Robin in 20th.

Among the women, the French Axelle Gachet-Mollaret and Emily Harrop also achieved a double at the top of the podium in front of the Austrian Sarah Dreier. Swiss athletes are further down the table. Caroline Ulrich finished 10th, Marianne Fatton 12th, Thibe Deseyn 15th and Viktoria Kreuzer 16th.
