Joaquin Buckley continued his strong run at UFC welterweight on Saturday in Tampa as he dominated crowd favorite Colby Covington.
Very active during the last year, Buckley added a fourth victory in as many outings to his 2024 record. He now has 20 wins to his record in 26 outings.
Ranked ninth in the 170 lbs category heading into the fight, Buckley will certainly make gains after knocking out Covington for three rounds.
It was ultimately a doctor who ended Covington’s evening of work, whose face was bruised, the result of Buckley’s numerous power strikes that hit the target.
In the semi-final, featherweight veteran Cub Swanson created a bit of a surprise by being knocked out. to Billy Quarantillo in the third round.
Swanson signed his 30th victory (against 14 defeats) in mixed martial arts at the age of 41.
“I kind of told my wife that it could well be the last [combat]…so we’ll see. I’m a little old, aren’t I? Thank you for letting a 41-year-old fighter who is a dad come and entertain you,” Swanson said after his success.
This was the UFC’s final card for the 2024 schedule. Action will resume in three weeks, on January 11, 2025.
