More and more coaches are calling on former offensive players to provide advice to their offensive line. Emile Mpenza was thus called to the rescue.
Marking, Emile Mpenza knows what that means. The former Red Devil has found the net wherever he has been in his career, whether in the national team or at clubs like Standard, Schalke 04, Hamburg or Manchester City.
Perhaps inspired by the example of Kévin Mirallas at Union Saint-Gilloise, the Brasschaat coach called him to support his attackers.
The Antwerp team plays in third provincial and does not stand out for its offensive production. Emile’s advice was already expected in the very short term given the match against Meer in the title race this weekend.
A surprise visit
Michael Jacobs, a striker on the team, was stunned: “When someone with such a record stands in front of you, you listen. If we win against Meer, we will know who to thank,” he told Nieuwsblad.
But in the core, not everyone knew him: “Honestly, I had never heard of him. When the coach announced him, I immediately tried to get to know him. And I I was immediately impressed. What a career!” enthuses, the young Maikel Verhagen, born in 2007, when Mpenza signed for Manchester City.
