The young Bernese impressed in Cervinia by getting a 5th place on her first outing on the White Circus.

Noémie Wiedmer made a dazzling start to the World Cup in Cervinia. Already very strong in qualifying, the 17-year-old from Berne rushed straight into the small final of the snowboardcross event on Saturday, leaving her colleagues behind, to score a fine 5th place.

Even against great champions like Charlotte Bankes and Michela Moioli, the young Swiss did not let herself be impressed, dominating her quarter-final and making a good start in the next round before losing ground. In the small final, she once again delivered a demonstration to finish 5th, ahead of her compatriot Sina Siegenthaler, 7th. First in the European Cup rankings last winter and gold medalist at the Youth Olympic Games in January, Noémie Wiedmer has already taken her place at the top in the World Cup.

Young people in great shape

It was a good day for young snowboarders: Frenchwoman Léa Casta, 18, won her first World Cup victory ahead of Australian Josie Baff and a second young Frenchwoman, Maja-Li Iafrate Danielsson, on the box for the first time. The Swiss Sophie Hediger, solid 3rd in qualifying, and Aline Albrecht were stopped in the quarter-finals.

Among the men, Valerio Jud was eliminated before reaching the semi-final but still achieved his best result in the World Cup with a 14th place. Kalle Koblet did not go beyond the 8th. The Austrian Jakob Dusek won ahead of the Australian Cameron Bolton and the Italian Lorenzo Sommariva.
