The Lopez-Treymezaygues stadium in Laroque-d’Olmes, in Ariègehosted on Sunday December 8, 2024 a meeting of D1 de pitting the seniors of the local team, FC Laroque, against those of the Pamiers FC reserve. A match won by the players from the Ariège sub-prefecture with a score of 0 to 1. Which allows them to consolidate their first place in the championship.

But that’s not what made this match historic… The meeting will remain as the first in Occitania during which a central referee was equipped with an on-board camera on his chest.

Posters to warn everyone

This initiative was announced in April 2024 by the Ariège district, faced, like others, with regular incivility on the pitch (and off it). Experimented some time ago, on-board cameras made their official entry onto the field during this match at Laroque-d’Olmes. The device, which costs 6,000 euros, is financed by Adista Equadex.

Both the players and the staff were of course warned of the particularity of this meeting. And posters also announced the color.

Before other meetings

At the end of an uneventful match, the Appamean visitors welcomed the novelty. For them, the installation of on-board cameras “will reassure everyone and certainly avoid a lot of problems on and around the grounds.” If the camera is above all a deterrent, the filmed images can also be used by the federation for sanctions if necessary.

From now on, other matches in Ariège will be in the viewfinder, before an extension, undoubtedly, to other districts of Occitanie.
