The FIA has announced several changes to the 2025 Formula 1 regulations, in order to clarify points. The first is a link with the McLaren F1 mini-DRS, which the federation had banned without specifying a framework. This room opened slightly in Baku even when it was supposed to be closed, thanks to a tolerance on flexibility.
To address this issue, the FIA has now made a change to its technical regulations for 2025. It requires the DRS flap to adhere to the same restrictions on bodywork deformation when the system is not deployed.
“With the exception of the driver-adjustable bodywork, when in a deployed state, all aerodynamic components or bodywork influencing the aerodynamic performance of the car must be rigidly fixed and immovable relative to their supporting frame. reference defined in Article 3.3” can we read in the updated regulations.
Another clause has been added to define a minimum gap between the rear wing elements when the DRS system is not activated: “At any point along the span, the rear wing profiles (as defined in Article 3.10.1) must have a minimum gap of between 9.4 mm and 13 mm. This will apply when DRS is not in a deployed state (as defined in Article 3.10.10) and will be measured using a spherical gauge.”
A “Heat Risks” rule added
Another rule was created to prevent drivers from suffering too much from the heat. The FIA will now define periods of “heat risks”, in the event that the forecast calls for a temperature above 30.5 degrees during a Sprint or race.
This risk of heat must be declared at least 24 hours in advance, and the teams will then be able to install parts on the cars to cool the drivers. The minimum weight will then increase from 800 to 805 kilos for each single-seater.
“If the official weather service predicts that the heat index will be above 30.5°C at any point during the sprint or competition race, or at the sole discretion of the race director, a heat risk may be declared twenty-four (24) hours before the scheduled start of the competition. the article states.
“Once a heat risk is declared, it remains in effect for the duration of the competition. All competitors will be informed via the official messaging system.”
“Once a heat hazard is declared: (a) Additional elements to assist with pilot cooling must be installed, including pilot cooling systems, as described in Article 14.6 of the Technical Regulations. (b) ) In accordance with Articles 4.1 and 4.7 of the Technical Regulations, the Mass Increase for Heat Risk applies.”
