Over the past few days, the New York Rangers, who appear to be imploding internally, have shaken up the NHL by trading away their captain Jacob Oven to the Anaheim Ducks in return for defenseman Urho Vaakanainen as well as a 4th round pick in 2025.

This transaction was completed after Trouba used his partial no-trade clause to block a trade to Columbus.

But the transaction could have been much bigger.

According to what the journalist reports and insider Elliotte Friedman in his most recent podcast 32 Thoughts on Sportsnet, the Ducks tried to include the veteran Cam Fowler in the exchange.

However, given that the Rangers’ goal was to liquidate Trouba’s salary to have more room to maneuver, among other things, to finalize the new 92 million contract for their star goalkeeper Igor Shesterkinthey refused to allow Fowler to be included in the deal.

  • Aged 33, Cam Fowler is a 6’2″/210lbs left-handed defenseman selected in the 1st round (12th overall) in the 2010 draft. So far this season, he has collected 4 assists in 15 games. He has 2 years left on his contract earning him an average of $6.5 million per season.

Still according to Friedman, we should expect to see the Ducks deal the veteran defenseman between now and the trade deadline, as he would like to join a team contending for major honors.
