Despite his outfit of the day, jeans and t-shirt, unusual in a pool, his silhouette is recognizable. Alain Bernard, a true living legend of French swimming, simply gives his advice to young swimmers with strong movements.
What gives me pleasure is to share my experience by telling myself that, in the water, we can all progress just by changing the position of our head and body.
Olympic Swimming Champion
The champion came to present, that day at the Saint Jean-de-Luz swimming pool, an innovative system allowing the swimming movement of athletes to be filmed underwater and out of water in order to improve their performance. by finding the most effective posture. It is called the Vogoscope.
“We have an outdoor camera and an underwater camera.”details the champion. The video system allows athletes’ performances to be filmed and analyzed on a tablet. The first to try this system are competitors who seem interested in the use which promises tailor-made.
A plus according to the swimming coach of the Urkirolak club, Jérémy Lefèbvre. “To improve performances which are of the order of a hundredth, we work on millimeters… When you have a camera, it’s 100 times better to be able to see precisely these details.“.
For Alain Bernard, this immersive installation allows swimmers to progress quickly. “I’m happy because they have never seen themselves swimming before by any other means of capture. The fact that they saw themselves swimming in a situation, they became aware of some technical errors to improve.”
