For their last home match of the year, the Bayonnais were keen to put in a good performance in front of their home crowd. They will have tried everything to win but they let slip two precious points by being held in check by the Argelès team (0-0). They will long regret the many opportunities they failed to convert. Thus, it was on a soggy pitch and with a reshuffled team (absence of goalkeeper Portets and attacking midfielder Giacomini) that the Ciel et Blanc faced Argelès-sur-Mer in their lair of Didier-Deschamps, on behalf of the 11th day of the championship.
The Bayonnais entered the match the best since on the first corner in the 3rd minute, the head of central defender Cissé hit the bar. There was no observation round, the two formations being visibly turned towards the offensive, from the first moments of the meeting.
The Occitans had their first real opportunity in the 17th minute: a 20-meter shot from Dupuis hit the corner of the Bayonne cage. The more the minutes passed, the more the locals got their foot on the ball. They managed to create several opportunities but failed in the last move, like Picoulet whose shot narrowly missed the target during the last action of the first act. Everything remained to be done in the 2nd half.
The ball didn’t want to go in
The Bayonnais returned to the pitch with the same intentions but still did not succeed in breaking the Occitan barrier. They came close to the opposing cages on numerous occasions but showed glaring ineffectiveness in front of the Argelès goal, whether following strikes or headers.
Against them, the Occitans also had great difficulty creating chances but were able to be solid defensively throughout the match. The year 2024 will end next Saturday in Arcachon for the Bayonnais, with the match postponed from… last Saturday.
The reaction
Alain Pochat (Bayonne coach): “I have nothing to reproach my players; they did their best on very complicated terrain. If we rely on the appearance of the match, we should have easily won the three points. We had many chances but the ball didn’t want to go in tonight. We must now look forward to the next match against Arcachon. »
