Thomas Tumler took control of the Beaver Creek giant by a significant margin. Only Zan Kranjec is under a second behind after the first round.
Marco Odermatt is still not leading a giant this season. After his victory on Saturday in the super-G, we could have thought that the best skier in the world was going to set the record straight. But this track, in this discipline, never smiled on him. Zero podiums to his credit. The top 3 is accessible in the second round, but for the victory, his hopes are slim. 6th place, 1”26 from the lead.

Thomas Tumler really understood the route
A skier particularly likes this place. 6 years ago, Thomas Tumler obtained his first World Cup podium at the giant Beaver Creek. Since then, the place has always allowed him to express himself. This Sunday, it was imperial. Others were able to compete on the upper part, but no one had the necessary intensity all the way down. Tumler gained at least seven tenths on all his opponents at the bottom of the course. Only Zan Kranjec competed.
The Slovenian ranks 2nd, 56 hundredths behind the leader. He took risks by tightening lines and managed to release his ski in the lower part, to approach the ski produced by Thomas Tumler. Atle Lie McGrath completes the provisional podium, being 1”01 behind the Helvetian. Lucas Pinheiro Braathen is monstrous, too. Bib 29, the Brazilian ranks 4th, in the time of his friend Atle Lie McGrath. First podium to come?
Favrot on time
Thibaut Favrot left like a plane. Three tenths ahead after 19 seconds of racing with a thunderous top and then, less gas. The Alsatian is in the pack, with the 12th time. He is seven tenths off the podium. A more complicated round for Alexis Pinturault. His intensity was several notches below that of Saturday, in super-G, and it showed on the clock. Almost three seconds late and we have to wait to find out if there will be a second run.
Léo Anguenot is also placed with the 16th time of the round. Good attitudes for Cluse. Cyprien Sarrazin fought hard and got one of the best times on the lower part. Haut-Alpin is 20th at the end of the first round.
