We will only know the exact composition of the teams for the 4 Nations Confrontation at 6:30 p.m. but we already know that the predictions are not very good for the players from Quebec.
According to what has been circulating for a few hours, Canadian goalkeeper Samuel Montembeault would be part of the Canadian team’s plans to occupy the position of third goalkeeper.
It seems, barring a last minute surprise, that he will be the only Quebecer with Team Canada. If this is the case, it will be the lowest representation in the history of Quebec in a major international tournament, in which all players are eligible to participate.
We therefore excluded the World Championships since, each year, many talented players refuse to go or simply cannot participate since their NHL team is still in action, in the playoffs.
A total of 16 tournaments
We therefore took into consideration 16 tournaments or clashes involving the best professional players in Canada: the two editions of the Series of the Century, that of 1972 and the other, a little more forgotten, of 1974 which brought together the best of the AMH , the five editions of the Canada Cup, the Rendez-Vous 87, the three editions of the World Cup and the Olympic Games from 1998 to 2014, i.e. those during which professionals were able to participate.
In all of this, Quebec’s worst harvest was two representatives, during the 1991 Canada Cup when only Éric Desjardins and Luc Robitaille were in the squad.
If this proves true, this disappointment would be added to that of a few days ago when we learned that only two players from Quebec were among the 32 invited to the Junior Team Canada selection camp next week.
A few weeks ago, La Belle Province also saw only two of its representatives be selected to represent the Canadian Hockey League during the CHL/USA Prospects Challenge.
