AS Saint-Étienne must face another prolonged absence of one of its key players. Yvann Maçonthe versatile 25-year-old right back, suffers again from his meniscus operated on September 12 after receiving a blow to the knee during the match against Brest on August 31. This injury prevented him from participating in the Greens' last two matches against Montpellier and Rennes.
Surgical intervention narrowly avoided
After his knee started to swell again, Mason had to take additional exams. These revealed the presence of residual debris in the knee, but fortunately the risk of further surgery was ruled out. Instead, the player will suffer a simple washing the joint which will allow him to resume training in about a month.
A return hoped for at the end of January for the Stéphanois
Despite this good news, Yvann Maçon should not be back on the field before the end of January. Presented as a potential starter at the start of the season, the versatile full-back will have only played a few games in the green tunic in recent months. One more absence which weighs heavily on Saint-Étienne, in difficulty this season in Ligue 1.
A delicate period for the Forézien club
This new injury Mason adds to the numerous physical problems which have hit the Saint-Etienne squad this season. In an already tense context with disappointing results, the club will have to redouble its efforts to revive itself during the second half of the season.
