The International Ski Federation (FIS) announced Saturday that the giant slalom event at the Mont-Tremblant World Cup was canceled due to lack of snow.
The cold spells of recent days have been insufficient to create the necessary snow cover.
The FIS said on the social network X that it was trying to postpone the event initially scheduled for December 7 and 8.

In a press release, the president and general director of the Canadian Alpine Ski Federation, Thérèse Brisson, affirmed that, despite this situation, the organization would redouble its efforts to ensure that the event was held in 2025.
This situation motivates us even more to organize an even better World Cup in Mont-Tremblant in December 2025. I would like to thank our partners, sponsors and donors for their continued support, and I look forward to seeing everyone there. next year.
For his part, event director Nicholas Cogger said he was looking forward to next year’s edition, despite this year’s challenges.
The weather just wasn’t right for us to make enough snow and there was no natural snow.
he clarified.
According to him, the money spent to organize the event was still worth it.
This is a significant amount spread over several years. We see this as an important investment, not just for the World Cup, but also for the resort’s guests. The track Flying Mile is much more welcoming now, and this makes it possible to welcome other races of other levels
added Nicholas Cogger.
Disappointment among the skiers
The cancellation of the Mont-Tremblant Alpine Ski World Cup has fueled discussions all the way to Killington, Vermont, where the great white circus has set up for a giant slalom and a women’s slalom this weekend.
No! Oh my god! I didn’t know it. I didn’t expect that
launched the Franco-Ontarian Valérie Grenier, trained at the Mont-Tremblant club, in shock, after having uttered an expletive in the mixed zone of the Killington giant slalom.
I want to cry, it’s really sad, she continued, before finally shedding a few tears. I don’t know why I’m crying, but I was so looking forward to Tremblant.
I was sure it was going to happen. Everyone said cold weather was forecast and there might be snow. I guess I’m happy to have started [à Killington]but I’m really, really sad.
It was also true for skiers not coming from the Laurentians.
“It’s really disappointing,” said Mikaela Shiffrin. It was so good to ski this mountain last year. But it’s quite a challenge to have snow at this time of the season. Every race we have done this season has been an uncertain case until the last second. It’s a shame to lose these races in the North East of America, but I can’t wait to go back next year.
It’s really a big disappointment for the entire Canadian team. We found out literally five minutes before the first round. It threw us off a bit, said Alberta native Britt Richardson. We thank the people who tried to keep this event on the calendar, but Mother Nature has the last word. We’ll do it again next year.
Last year, on the occasion of the first edition of this World Cup in Mont-Tremblant, the Italian Federica Brignone triumphed in the two giant slaloms. The Laurentides resort has agreed to a three-year agreement with the FIS, which will conclude with the presentation of the 2026 World Cup.
