Due to a lack of temperatures cold enough to create a blanket of snow, the Tremblant PwC Ski World Cup, which was to be held in a week, is canceled.

The best skiers in the world, including Mikaela Shiffrin, Federica Brignone and Lara Gut-Behrami were scheduled to compete in Mont-Tremblant on December 7 and 8. But “the cold windows of the last few days have been insufficient to create the required snow cover”, explain the organizers of the Cup in a press release. Ticket holders will be automatically refunded over the next few days.

“The safety of athletes, staff and volunteers is our primary concern,” comments Ski World Cup Race Director Peter Gerdol.

“I know this is disappointing news for everyone concerned,” laments Alpine Canada President Therese Brisson. The Tremblant organizing committee, employees and volunteers were extraordinarily well prepared and did everything they could.”

The World Cup returned to Mont-Tremblant last year after a 40-year absence. The event was a huge success, attracting more than 15,000 spectators in two days. It was the second largest crowd on the circuit, after the one gathered at the Killington, Vermont competition.

The ski season continues with the next stop in Beaver Creek, Colorado, December 11-15. And next year, the Tremblant World Cup should be back on December 6 and 7, its organizers confirm.
