Rangers: Kaapo Kakko joins Jacob Trouba and Chris Kreider among available players

New York Rangers general manager Chris Drury is ready to stir his soup and veterans Jacob Trouba and Chris Kreider aren’t the only players he’s willing to get rid of.

It appears that 23-year-old forward Kaapo Kakko is also available to any team that would like to acquire him, TSN’s Darren Dreger has learned.

“Several teams are circling around Chris Drury and the Rangers, beyond what was speculated this week with the availability of Jacob Trouba and Chris Kreider,” Dreger said in Insider Trading. I am told that the name Kaapo Kakko has resurfaced. Now, it’s not like the Rangers are willing to give it away. They drafted him second overall in the 2019 draft.”

“Ice time is an issue. Kakko probably wants a fresh start, but again, if they trade pieces like him, then the return will have to be exactly what the Rangers want. But there is undoubtedly interest. »

Kakko scored three goals and recorded 12 points in 21 games after signing a new one-year, $2.4 million contract following trade rumors. He plays on average 13 minutes and 13 seconds per game.

The winger had 13 goals and 19 points in 60 games last year, after amassing 18 goals and 40 points in 2022-2023.

Kakko was selected with the second overall pick in the 2019 draft, one pick behind Jack Hughes and just ahead of Kirby Dach and Bowen Byram. The latter two were traded by the teams that drafted them.
