Trevor Zegras had a disastrous start to the season.
We know that he is recognized as an offensive player and that is why after 15 games, his meager three-point haul was starting to worry some people.
Especially when you think about the fact that he didn’t have a great 23-24 season either, even though he was injured for a good part of the year.
But there, the American found something that works in his game.
He has three goals and four assists in his last six games and he is (finally) performing up to his talent.
When Zegras showcases his skills, he is able to help the Ducks on the ice as we saw earlier this week against the Kraken:
Last season, Zegras saw his best friend (Jamie Drysdale) traded by his club… And he was also at the heart of several rumors himself. We also learned during the year that he was dating Dixie D’Amelio, one of the biggest influencers in the United States.
It comes with distractions and I feel like it played on his head. Maybe it took him a while to get over it.
After all, in his first two full seasons in the NHL, Zegras has proven that he can be one of the good offensive players in the league.
Campaigns like these, at 20 and 21, are no small thing:
- 23 goals and 61 points in 75 games (21-22 season)
- 23 goals and 65 points in 91 games (22-23 season)
A bad patch or a bad season can happen to any NHL player. And there are lots of different reasons to explain this phenomenon.
That said, I’m really looking forward to seeing if Zegras will be able to continue its momentum in order to finish the campaign with an acceptable harvest.
If he is able to finish the campaign with more than 55 points on the clock… I will consider that a good result because it took him a while to get going.
To be continued, therefore. But his current streak (seven points in six games) demonstrates that he has the talent to be a productive player in the National League.
It seems to me that the CH… #FinishThePhrase
