David Hubert must solve a puzzle again. The Anderlecht coach saw Killian Sardella injured. And so, Thomas Foket will soon have to come into play. He has not yet shown his full potential in purple and white.
The absence of Killian Sardella is a big blow for Anderlecht. “Too bad, because Killian was playing at a very high level. We have to look for new solutions. Sometimes these are obvious, sometimes it requires a little more creativity,” explained David Hubert at a press conference. “We’re always looking to make the most of what we have.”
The likely replacement is the former Red Devil Thomas Foketwhich has already been criticized this season. “Thomas brings experience and has had a period of adaptation. He had in Sardella a solid competitor for his position, and yes, sometimes it could have been better,” admits Hubert.
“He also had some good performances. But now it’s his time. Minutes are sometimes gained because of injuries to others, and at that moment it’s up to him to take that chance.”
Kasper Dolberg completely transformed under David Hubert
Hubert also had to make decisions regarding striker Kasper Dolberg, a key player in Anderlecht’s system. “Filing Dolberg into the starting XI is not difficult, but every player wants to play at all times. It’s not possible,” he emphasizes. “With so many games, it’s important to find a balance, look at the physical and mental rhythm of the players and determine when someone can start. These choices are crucial.”
Is Mario Stroeykens getting closer to the Red Devils?
Another big topic of conversation was the development of Mario Stroeykenswho is in great shape this season. Hubert is complimentary towards his player and sees a national selection more and more possible. “I see the player and his abilities. What he brings every week on the pitch is impressive,” says Hubert.
“Becoming a Red Devil is a question of constant performance: showing hunger, in every training and match. Helping your team, taking responsibility, being a leader. Mario has progressed enormously at this level.”
“He’s getting closer and closer.”
According to Hubert, it’s not just about talent, but also maturity. “Stroeykens takes his responsibilities and makes the difference. This brings him closer and closer to the Red Devils. It’s up to him to maintain this line and show what he is capable of.”
With the challenges of injuries and the opportunities for players like Foket and Stroeykens, it’s an intense time ahead for Hubert. “Every decision counts, but I see a group ready to take on the challenges and prove themselves,” he concludes.
