Simon “Snake” Boisvert would really like to see the Canadian get better attackers. The poor start to the season must rejoice him, because Montreal is in the process of offering itself a better place in the draft.
In fact, Boisvert is convinced that the Canadian’s attack is missing pieces and that Nick Suzuki cannot remain the team’s best attacker.
The Snake instead think that Nick Suzuki should be a third or even fourth best forward on a team that aspires to the Stanley Cup.
This is what he explained during the last episode of his podcast Process with Mathias Brunet.
The Snake really doesn’t seem like a big Suzuki supporter. He says that what he says is not mean, but that the Canadian’s supporters have a “Stockholm” syndrome and that they want to see the captain occupy a chair that he does not deserve.
We must particularly remember a few days ago, when Boisvert explained to Tony Marinaro that Slafkovsky should already be better than Suzuki. He doesn’t believe in Suzuki’s ability to lead a winning team.
He also doesn’t think Suzuki should be a number one center. He plays well, but to win a championship, it takes a better center than that, according to Boisvert.
And yet, Suzuki was named the 16th best center in the NHL in 2023-24 by NHL Network. There is still work to do, but surrounded by players developed to their full potential and full of talent, he could be even better.
I agree that Nick Suzuki needs to be surrounded by better forwards, but he is capable of leading a championship team on a top line. It’s a question of talent, but also of discipline and leadership.
Once again this year, the Canadian should have the opportunity to draft a very talented forward. With Ivan Demidov, Michael Hage and that potential 2025 first-round pick arriving within the next few years, Suzuki could have the help needed to prove he’s capable of guiding a championship team.
Suzuki could be overtaken. We just shouldn’t say right away that he doesn’t have the qualities of a first center.
