The Limougauds well deserved their victory lap this evening. Beaten by six goals in the first leg, in Portugal (37-31), he A little over a month ago, the LH took its revenge this evening and in authoritarian fashion against Benfica Lisbon, winning 36-28 during this 6th and final day of the preliminary round. Thanks to this Limoges victory confirms his return to form after a slump of several weeks.
From the start of the match, the men of coach Alberto Entrerrios, under the leadership of Sime Ivic (6 goals in the first period) took the advantage over the Portuguese who quickly understood that the evening was going to be complicated for them. Thanks to this victory acquired with an eight-goal margin, Limoges can dream of an exciting European spring. Indeed, this result gives a particular advantage to the LH (better goal difference against Lisbon). Indeed, and this is an “oddity” that only the handball regulations are capable of offering us, Limoges will find the Portuguese team in its pool in February but without facing it. Thus, Limoges and Lisbon (the two qualified from their preliminary round group) already have two points each in the main round standings (one victory each in their direct confrontation). As a result, there will remain four matches in Lisbon and Limoges (A/R) against the Spaniards of Irun and against the Swedes of Ystads to obtain one of the first three places in their group. The first being directly qualified for the quarter-finals of the European League while the second and third will have to go through a round of 16.
Until then, and to dream of Europe next season, Limoges must confirm its latest good results by moving up the Starligue rankings. And it starts this Friday with the Tremblay reception. Match at 8 p.m.
