Frenchman Pierre Gasly already knows that he will be penalized on the starting grid of the British Grand Prix which takes place this weekend on the Silverstone circuit from July 5 to 7.

Arriving at Silverstone, the Alpine team has already scheduled the change of several engine elements on Pierre Gasly’s single-seater, which means that the Norman will be penalized several places on the starting grid for this twelfth round of the season (it remains to be determined which elements will be changed).

“We are changing parts of the power unit on my car, which will result in a penalty for the Grand Prix.” Gasly told us on the eve of the British Grand Prix.

In this context, the French manufacturer’s team has chosen to entrust Gasly’s single-seater to its reserve driver, Jack Doohan, during the first free practice session this Friday, while Pierre Gasly will begin his weekend later in the day during FP2.

“So it’s a logical solution to guarantee Jack one of his obligatory appearances as a young driver.” Gasly added.

“Despite that, I’m looking forward to hearing his feedback after Free Practice 1 before I jump in. I hope we can put in another good performance despite the penalty.”

“From a driver’s point of view, Silverstone is one of the best circuits on the calendar in terms of pure thrills. It’s extremely fast, the car is pushed to its limits in some corners and it’s so much fun to drive. The races there are generally exciting as there are several places where overtaking is possible.”

Last weekend in Austria, Pierre Gasly scored his 400th point in Formula 1 thanks to his tenth place at the finish of the race, while the Frenchman recently saw his contract renewed for several years.
