International – Steven Kitshoff, double world champion prop, underwent a six and a half hour neck operation

Double world champion with the Springboks, left prop Steven Kitshoff underwent neck surgery in recent days. The operation lasted six and a half hours. The former UBB player gave his news, stating that everything went well.

The images are chilling. On social networks, some photos of Steven Kitshoff were shared after his neck surgery. The South African left prop was seriously injured several months ago with Western Province. The former UBB player (34 matches between 2015 and 2017) has therefore been playing billiards in recent days. The operation lasted six and a half hours. In one of the images, we can see the large scar now present on the neck of the double world champion.

On his Instagram account, Steven Kitshoff posted a reassuring message: “I am delighted to say that my surgery was a great success! Many thanks to my incredible doctors and nurses for their extraordinary care, and to all my family, friends and loyal supporters. Your support means a lot to me! long journey awaits me now but I am enthusiastic for the future that awaits me.”

A career on hold

To this day, it is impossible to say if Kitshoff will wear his crampons again one day. Aged 32, a long period of rehabilitation awaits the left-hander to return to a normal life.

As a reminder, the man with 83 caps with the Boks started in the last World Cup final against the All Blacks. Last season, before returning to the Western Province, he played for Ulster. His last outing with the Irish was against Clermont at the Michelin, in the quarter-final of the Challenge Cup.
