Tour de France. Very low temperatures at the summit of Galibier during the fourth stage

The Tour de France is already making way for the high mountains. After three days in Italy, the peloton arrives in France this Tuesday, July 2, for the 4th stage.

A first hors catégorie summit is on the program with the legendary Col du Galibier. The finish will be judged in Valloire, twenty kilometers lower. After three first stages marked by stifling heat, the weather forecasts are very different. In the ascent of the Galibier, the temperature should not exceed ten degrees, with a lower feel. The various weather reports predict a feel temperature of around 3° between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m., when the peloton will be in action in the Galibier.

Snow still present a few days ago

Previously, the peloton will set off from Pinerolo, Italy, before climbing the 40 kilometres at 3.7% towards Sestriere and then the Col de Montgenèvre (8.3 km at 5.9%).

The Galibier (23 km at an average of 5.1%), which peaks at an altitude of 2,642 metres, is the second highest peak of this 2024 Tour de France behind the Cime de la Bonnette (2,802 metres).
