The 4th stage of the Tour de France, between Pinerolo and Valloire, is synonymous with the first mountain stage and return to France for the riders of the Grande Boucle. On the program of the day’s route, a distance of 139.6 kilometers to cover and a profile of 3,600 meters of positive elevation gain to climb, including the ascent of the Col du Galibier via the Col du Lautaret. Tadej Pogacar, Jonas Vigegaard and Remco Evenepoel are the favorites of the day while Richard Carapaz will try to save his yellow jersey. Casper Pedersen (Soudal Quick – Step) has been announced as not starting this 4th stage of the Tour. The Danish rider is suffering from a broken collarbone.

The Col du Galibier via the Col du Lautaret

It is a mountain stage profile that awaits the riders of the Tour de France this Tuesday. From the start in Pinerolo, the riders will be engaged and find themselves after 50 kilometers of racing at more than 2,000 meters of altitude, at the summit of Sestriere (39.9km at 3.7%) in 2nd category. Quickly after the runners will face the slopes of the Col de Montgenèvre (8.3km at 5.9%). After a short descent, it’s time for the day’s climb, the Col du Galibier (23km at 5.1% average gradient) at 2,642 meters above sea level and classified as uncategorizedhaving previously passed through the Lautaret Pass which will symbolize the crossing of 2,000 meters. The arrival is not at the summit, but at the end of a long descent to Valloire.

The riders will set off from Italy, from Pinerolo, at 1:05 p.m. for this 4th stage that will take them to France. And it is at the end of the 139.6 kilometers of today’s stage that the riders will play for the stage victory and the yellow jersey, in Valloire, at around 5:20 p.m.
