This 2024 season is hers. Justine Gégu continues to string together good performances and make the colours of Team Elles Groupama Pays de Loire shine. The Loire team made the long trip to Doubs on Saturday to compete in the Val de Morteau Women’s Classic, 3e round of the French Cup for N1 clubs. Only beaten by Amalia Debarges (Team Buffaz Gestion de Patrimoine-Lyon Sprint Evolution), Justine Gégu achieved a new podium and above all consolidated her position as leader in the general standings of this French Cup.

In a lively race, on a circuit changed at the last minute because of the legislative elections, Team Elles, as it has become accustomed to, animated the debates with several of its members on the offensive.

Ilona Feytou thus took part in the longest breakaway of the day with two other competitors, but the attempt would fail. It was then Elisa Lemetayer’s turn to try her luck in a duo, but there again the peloton did not want to give in. It was therefore a sprint that sealed the fate of the classic, during which Amalia Buffaz proved to be the fastest. “I wasn’t overconfident”admits Justine Gégu. “I waited too long instead of launching early and she took advantage of my hesitations. I came back well but unfortunately I’m still half a wheel behind”.

Lucas Diagne’s protégé therefore has some regrets. “There was room to do better.” With this podium, however, she scores valuable points that place her at the top of the provisional ranking with one round to go. This will be the Pointe du Raz Ladies Classic, which will take place on August 31 and 1is September. A race where she will be forced to shine since her runner-up in the ranking, called up for the national team, will be awarded points without even running.
