Defender becomes the first automobile brand to become a partner of the Dakar rally, before entering competition from 2026.
Through this 3-year partnership, Defender will provide a fleet of vehicles to “Dakar Rally officials and VIP media until 2028”. In addition to this, 6 “highly specialized reconnaissance” cars will be given to the organizers who will aim to test the routes of future editions of the rally.
« Defender will demonstrate its capability and durability as the official car of the event ” explain Mark Cameron, CEO of Defender. But the brand does not stop there since in 2026 it will enter competition with a manufacturer team. “ This program will be led by James Barclay, Managing Director of JLR Motorsport, and I know that James and his team are inspired by the challenge that awaits them. » he continues.
