Genève-Servette finally won in front of its home crowd in the National League this season, after six defeats in a row. The Eagles beat Ambri 6-5 in overtime despite a disastrous start to the match.

The match had indeed started in the worst way for the Garnets and Robert Mayer, chased from his goal after nine minutes of play – replaced by the Finn Antti Raanta – while the score was already 3-0 in favor of the Leventins. André Heim (5th), Chris DiDomenico (8th) and Dario Bürgler (10th) completely cooled down an already not well-stocked Vernets ice rink.

A five-minute penalty imposed on Jesse Virtanen allowed GSHC to revive before the first break, thanks to goals from Markus Granlund (18th) and Vincent Praplan (19th). Ambri, however, took off again after returning from the locker room in power play (Heed, 23rd).

Less passive than at the start of the match, the Eagles then sounded the revolt. A double from Sakari Manninen (29th/37th, the first goal at 4 against 5!) and a success from Marc-Antoine Pouliot (37th) put the two teams back on level terms.

Four matches in six days

And in overtime, Michael Spacek scored his first goal of the season to give the Garnet two points. Enough to kick off a crucial week for Genève-Servette, which still has three matches on the program this week, starting with the reception of Friborg on Wednesday.
