Avenir Fonsorbais Badminton (AFB) hosted the senior departmental interclub badminton play-offs in June at the Clémence Royer high school gymnasium in Fonsorbes, where the classifications took place over the weekend.

The best senior interclub badminton teams in the department from divisions 1 to 5 competed to decide which teams will move up a division for next season. The classifications were made in two stages over the weekend: on Saturday morning the semi-finals and in the afternoon the finals of the teams from divisions 3, 4 and 5.

In Division 4, the AFB team 3 had won all its matches during the season, despite injuries. And this team emerged victorious from these play-offs. “We will find them in Division 3 next year,” proudly announces Nathalie Merland, captain of the AFB team 3, with tears in her eyes. “I am really happy for the team. Everyone gave their all this year with good team cohesion, we can see the result and it is a great success!”

On Sunday, the teams from divisions 1 and 2 faced each other in the same way, with the semi-finals in the morning and the finals in the afternoon.

“In these divisions, it was the AFB team 1 that came top of the group in division 2, it won the quarter-final but unfortunately it had to lose 3-4 in the semi-final against VCT4 with tight matches often in 3 sets, including the last mixed 26-28”.

This team therefore stops at the gates of division 1 but it remains motivated as never before to try the adventure again next season.

The AFB thanks the departmental committee for organizing the play-offs in Fonsorbes as well as the town hall for allowing it to host these matches. The club also thanks all the volunteers who made these days possible.
