Big football fan, Frenchman Arthur Cazaux beat Belgian Zizou Bergs… in the middle of France-Belgium at the Euro

At the end of a match that lasted 4h39, Arthur Cazaux qualified for the 2nd round of Wimbledon at the expense of Zizou Bergs (6-1, 6-4, 6-7, 6-7, 7-6). In a press conference, the Frenchman shared his double joy of having won, and of knowing that France beat Belgium in the round of 16 of Euro 2024.

Double success for France against Belgium. Before the round of 16 of Euro 2024 won by the Blues, Arthur Cazaux crossed swords with the Belgian Zizou Bergs during the first round of Wimbledon (6-1, 6-4, 6-7, 6-7, 7-6). After largely dominating the first two sets, the Frenchman gave himself a scare by losing the next two sets in the tie-break. It took a super tie-break to secure victory for Cazaux at the end of a match that lasted 4h39.

As a result of this tough fight, Cazaux was unable to attend the victory of the Blues against the Red Devils during Euro 2024. A small regret for this football fan who has already proclaimed his love for Montpellier. In a press conference, the tennis player admitted to having thought about this shock: “I thought about it a little during my match. I said to myself ‘fuck it’s past 5pm, what’s going on?’ I hope it goes well for them.”

“I was doubly happy”

“I’m a big football fan, especially when it’s international competitions, and our country, I’m really on the ball. I was thinking about it a little indirectly, but I was still trying to stay focused on the match,” he continued. It is therefore with a serene mind that Cazaux will face Alexander Bublik in the second round.

The Frenchman took the opportunity to reveal how he learned of Les Bleus’ qualification for the quarter-finals: “I had a double dose of adrenaline with the victory, and when someone from the crowd told me that France won 1-0, I was doubly happy.” In the other direction, Bergs, who takes his first name from French legend Zinedine Zidane, experienced a double disappointment, he who attracted the sympathy of the French thanks to his first name.
