The future of Guillaume Rouet seems to be moving away from lRowing Bayonnais. The 36-year-old scrum half, who has become one of the emblematic faces of the club, sees his contract expire in the summer of 2024. The latter has still not received any signs from his leaders regarding his future. “I was neither summoned by the staff nor by management. I discovered the recruitment rumors like everyone else, in the press”he explains, guest of 100% Rugby on France Bleu Pays Basque this Monday, November 25.
Indeed, the club on the banks of Nive has just made official the arrival of South African international Herschel Jantjies for the next two seasons (plus one optional). Baptiste Germain (25 years old) is under contract until 2027. Finally, third place at scrum-half next year should go to Maxime Machenaud, according to our colleagues from Southwest which evoke a meeting fixed this Friday for the club and the former international.
“I would like to know if this season is my last here or not”
These movements actually leave little room for Rouet, who questions his role in the team, he who arrived at the club among the Cadet teams. “Out of respect for the years that I have given to the club, the minimum would be to take the temperature, to know what I intend to do. This is what has always boosted me: to prove my worth each season. Yes, it’s sometimes mentally tiring, but it’s also what builds character“he emphasizes, before adding: “Of course I want to continue playing. Whether here or elsewhere, I’m ready to give everything.”
Still relegated to the race for position, Rouet has shown resilience. At the start of the season, it was the physical problems that kept him away for more than a month and a halfafter a hamstring injury sustained in training. He returned to the group during the trip to Toulon, with the objective of winning at the end of the championship. “There are 16 games left in the Top 14, I want to play as many as possible and be 100% for the team.”
