AS Saint-Etienne will soon sign its first recruit of the summer! In search of experience and players experienced in Ligue 1 games, the Greens will poach the captain of Stade de Reims, Yunis Abdelhamid. At 36, the Moroccan international signed up for two seasons in Forez.

The Greens will launch their transfer window in the direction of arrivals. After a few departures linked to loan returns (Irvin Cardona, Stéphane Diarra) or players at the end of their contract (Rivera), AS Saint-Etienne is preparing to start its series of arrivals this summer. If the Saint-Etienne leaders want to bet on young people with high potential to progress over the years and increase their ambition, they will enlist a few executives who know the French championship perfectly and supervise the future locker room of the Greens. With this in mind, Loïc Perrin and his teams are trying to permanently recover Irvin Cardona, exceptional last year with ASSE (10 goals in 22 matches), who played 3 and a half seasons in Ligue 1 with Stade Brestois. But, it is another regular of the elite of French football who will set down his suitcases in Forez.

Abdelhamid signs 2 years in Saint-Etienne

Accustomed to Ligue 1 matches since 2016, Yunis Abdelhamid will continue his career with the Greens. At the end of his contract with Stade de Reims, where he was captain for many seasons, the 36-year-old Moroccan will sign a 2-year contract (including an optional year depending on the number of matches played next season) according to L’Equipe. Moreover, the central defender arrived this morning at the training center to undergo his medical examination. Examinations are scheduled for today and tomorrow, before signing the papers for the future contract. Abdelhamid has had another full season with the Reims team, playing 31 Ligue 1 matches (4 goals scored) and a leading role in the good season of the Champenois.

Our colleagues from EVECT.fr, media close to the Greens, indicate that the officialization of Abdelhamid’s arrival will take place by the end of the week, which will definitively launch the club’s transfer window for its historic rise to Ligue 1.
