NHL: Oilers keep Connor Brown and add Viktor Arvidsson

The Edmonton Oilers have announced their intention to keep most of the pieces that participated in the last season in Alberta. They started work Monday morning by signing forward Connor Brown for one season and $1 million.

Despite a lackluster regular season showing, where he was limited to four goals and eight assists in 71 games, Brown made his mark in the playoffs, where he collected six points, including two important goals, in 19 games.

The 30-year-old veteran was drafted by the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2012 with the 156th overall pick.

The Oilers have added another Brown to their roster with the signing of defenseman Josh Brown. The 6’5”, 220-pound rear colossus has agreed to a three-year deal with an annual salary of $1 million. The Ontarian spent the last two seasons in the uniform of the now defunct Arizona Coyotes.

Arvidsson s’ajoute aux Oilers

Minutes after the free agent market opened, the Oilers also found common ground with 31-year-old forward Viktor Arvidsson.

Our TSN colleague Pierre LeBrun confirmed that the two-year deal would earn him an annual average of $4 million.

Arvidsson spent the last three seasons in Los Angeles with the Kings, and he has six goals and 15 points in just 18 games in 2023-24.

A fourth-round pick of the Nashville Predators in 2014, Arvidsson has 179 goals and 362 points in 546 games in the Bettman circuit.

Sam Carrick joins Rangers

If Brown convinced the Oilers to keep him in Edmonton, forward Sam Carrick will continue his career with the Edmonton Oilers.

His new deal will earn him $1 million per season for a period of three years.

Carrick was acquired along with Adam Henrique in March in a trade with the Edmonton Oilers.

At 32, Carrick played 77 regular-season games last year, recording 10 goals and 16 points. He also played 10 games during the Oilers’ playoff run.
