Zapping Our Mondial EXCLUSIVE: Randal Kolo Muani’s “Little Brother” interview!
Uruguay will be without coach Marcelo Bielsa for the crucial Copa America Group C match against the United States on Monday night (3am). The organisers announced on Sunday that “El Loco” has been suspended for one match. Despite a brilliant 5-0 victory over Bolivia, the late arrival of the players on the pitch – a delay of one minute and thirty seconds – led the South American Football Confederation to impose this sanction on the Argentinian. In the absence of Bielsa, it is his assistant Pablo Quiroga who will take the reins of the Celeste for this decisive match.
Uruguay fined 14,000 euros
In addition to his suspension, Bielsa will neither be able to have contact with his team upon arrival at the stadium, nor participate in the pre-match press conference. The AUF, the Uruguayan Federation, was also fined around 14,000 euros. La Celeste nevertheless seems well on its way to qualifying for the quarter-finals after beating Panama 3-1 in their first match and outclassing Bolivia (5-0). Bielsa is not the only coach to be sanctioned in this Copa America. His counterparts Lionel Scaloni, Argentine coach, the Chilean Ricardo Gareca and the Venezuelan Fernando Batista were also punished for similar offenses.
