The Annecy Trafalgar coup with a former Green

For more than ten months, the signing of Omar Bengueddoudj’s first professional contract, trained at ASSE, with FC Annecy has been pending. Loaned with a promise of an extension upon his return, his future seems uncertain… And Annecy is not reassuring!

The young player, trained at AS Saint-Étienne, started last season as a starter against Guingamp, a match that marked the beginning of discussions for a professional contract. The parties had agreed to meet again at the beginning of September, after the rush of the transfer window. However, this meeting was postponed to October, then to the winter break, where it was agreed that Bengueddoudj would finish the season at Châteauroux (National) with the promise of a professional contract on his return.

A mixed loan to Châteauroux

During his six months at Châteauroux, Bengueddoudj played nine games and made two assists. Despite these performances, his future at FC Annecy has become uncertain. The club seems hesitant to sign the promised contract, preferring to explore other options for the player. Bengueddoudj, determined not to find himself without a contract as training approaches, is looking for alternative solutions. FC Annecy, for its part, has reportedly reaffirmed its commitment, while actively exploring exit options for the player.

Options in Europe and beyond

At 24, Bengueddoudj, who can also play as a midfielder, was offered to Bourg-en-Bresse, recently promoted to National, as well as to Lausanne-Ouchy, relegated to the Swiss second division, according to Dauphiné-Libéré. A club from Qatar has also expressed interest. However, the former resident of the Saint-Étienne training center prefers to continue his career in Europe. If none of these options materialize by July 1, Bengueddoudj could resume training with FC Annecy.

An uncertain future in Annecy

The case of Bengueddoudj reflects the challenges and uncertainties faced by many young players seeking stability and professional recognition. His time at AS Saint-Étienne gave him a solid foundation, but the transition to a stable professional career seems fraught with pitfalls. FC Annecy must now decide on the future of a player looking to make a place for himself in the world of professional football. However, it is not certain that he convinced the Haut-Savoyards…
