Numerous fractures for a MotoGP rider, his presence at Sachsenring uncertain

Over the last two seasons, Alex Rins has only climbed to the top of the podium once. Between the difficulties encountered with his motorcycle, and his serious injury during the sprint race of the 2023 Italian Grand Prix, the Spaniard is falling back into a bad patch. Currently in 21st place in the championship with 8 points, he is still far from teammate Fabio Quartararo, 14th with his 39 points. Positioned in 15th place on the starting grid after difficult qualifying, the Barcelona native crashed at the first corner of yesterday’s race. He lost control of his machine and crashed violently to the ground. Result, fracture of the right foot and wrist.

A future still uncertain

As soon as he was abandoned, the emergency services transported him directly to the hospital to carry out more in-depth analyses. With his injuries, his participation in the Sachsenring is unclear. 4 days before the start of the race meeting in Germany, the Spaniard could withdraw. The Yamaha rider spoke out following his hospitalization.

“I suffered a very violent fall at the start. I am already on my way to Madrid, where I will undergo further medical examinations to better understand the seriousness of my injuries to my right wrist and foot. I hope have news soon.”

His team manager, Massimo Meregalli, responded immediately.

“We are lucky the injury is not more serious, but he will probably need surgery.”

Just like Aleix Espargaro and Lorenzo Savadori, recently injured after a fall during the sprint race. Their participation for the ninth stage seems compromised.
