This is a team that is moving in the right direction. After a nightmarish start to the season, Alpine is gradually getting back on track. There have been changes made to the A524s of Esteban Ocon and Pierre Gasly, a loss of weight in the single-seater and above all a better understanding of it.
And over time, it begins to pay off since the French team remains on two double finishes in the points (Canada then Spain). In Austria this Friday, the Normans confirmed this progress with a new appearance in the last part of qualifying. After Q3 in Barcelona, Esteban Ocon and Pierre Gasly won their ticket for SQ3 of Sprint qualifying, with the 8e et 9e time respectively.
« I’m happy to have reached SQ3 today and started eighthsmiles Esteban Ocon. The team was in the top ten again in qualifying, so that’s another good performance. The SQ3 was far from straightforward as we were at the back of the queue exiting the pits. We probably had a little success like Charles [Leclerc] crossed the line after the checkered flag, making us gain a place. The positive point is however the fact that we performed well and are well placed for the Sprint.
