The 61-year-old has been unemployed since being let go by the New York Rangers after the team was eliminated in the first round of the 2022-2023 playoffs. He was at the helm of the Blueshirts for two seasons.
Gallant has also been at the helm of the Columbus Blue Jackets (2004-2007), Florida Panthers (2014-2017) and Vegas Golden Knights (2017-2020).
The Prince Edward Island native also worked as an assistant for several National League teams, including the Montreal Canadiens during two campaigns (2012-2013 and 2013-2014).
Recently, a rumor was spread that the CH was about to hire him to help Martin St-Louis behind the bench. However, it was denied by the Sainte-Flanelle staff.
The Spengler Cup tournament is a competition that brings together teams invited by HC Davos, the host team of the event since 1923. Canada usually sends a selection of players who mainly work in Europe. Unifolié and HC Davos are the most successful clubs with 16 crowns each.
The 2024 edition of the competition will take place from December 26 to 31.
