Christian Dvorak is not the fans’ favorite player in Montreal.
Many say the same thing: he’s useless if he doesn’t win his faceoffs… And his impact on the ice is minimal.
This is also why in the eyes of 85% of the club’s fans, Kent Hughes would be better off trading him.
But trading Christian Dvorak is not a piece of cake. And the reason is simple: his contract hurts.
When a 3rd/4th line player has a cap hit of $4.45M… We agree that it’s far from ideal.
That said, exchanging D-VO will be even more complicated for Kent Hughes in the coming months because he receives a salary of $5.75 million even if his contract counts for $4.45 million on the payroll.
It’s a lot of money and it risks scaring other clubs in the National League. Elliotte Friedman talked about this in a recent article:
Ideally, Kent Hughes would keep part of his salary if he wants to trade the veteran. He still has one place left (out of 3) to do so because at the moment, the CH is also retaining part of the salary of Jeff Petry and Jake Allen.
Because we agree on one thing: there is no NHL team that will want a Christian Dvorak at $4.45 million per season… even if his contract ends next summer.
Unless Kent Hughes decides to add a choice to get rid of the center player and his salary… But that would surprise me because it’s not the GM’s habits.
Kent Hughes likes to make these trades, but when he’s on the other side of the table. The Sean Monahan trade is a good example of this.
All this to say that the file remains to be followed, especially if the main person concerned plays as he has for two weeks.
Dvorak seems to have found his bearings after having had a very difficult start to the season… But it will still take more for a club to decide to be interested in his services.
Again, especially at the salary he earns.

– He is really unlucky.
