Wimbledon > Hurkacz: “I hope I will be remembered for something other than my victory against Federer”

Powerless against his friend Jannik Sinner in the final of the ATP 500 in Halle a few days ago, Hubert Hurkacz arrived at the Wimbledon facilities where he answered questions from the Guardian.

Questions which mainly focused on his famous victory against Roger Federer in the quarter-finals of the 2021 edition, marking the very last official match of the Swiss’ career.

“I was quite confident in my game at that moment, I knew I was playing good tennis on this grass at Wimbledon and especially after beating Daniil Medvedev in five sets. I felt like I was in a good position and I was just trying to do my best. It was stressful but I was also very excited. When I was a child, I always admired Roger, he was my idol. He has won so many times at Wimbledon and to have the chance to play with him on this unique court was something I always wanted to do. I hope I can do good things in the future and be remembered for something other than my victory against Roger. But it was really special to play on Center Court with Roger, just to feel the atmosphere. It was very noisy. I’ve never experienced anything like this before and I’m glad I was able to. »
