Tanzania eliminates Guinea, after a 1-0 victory for Taifa Stars. It was at the end of their final battle this afternoon for the last ticket in Group H for CAN 2025.
Tanzania played this Tuesday afternoon against Guinea, a high-stakes shock for the last place in Group H reserved for CAN 2025. The meeting took place in a packed Benjamin Mkapa national stadium, the entrance being free and free.
In this clash, both teams hoped to win this only remaining ticket from the group for the trip to Morocco. Guinea knew that a draw was enough for them to go to the CAN, while Tanzania was imperatively looking for a victory.
First half dominated by the Taifa, but without a goal
In this first period, hostilities began mainly with a first Tanzanian shot, signed by Clément Mzize in the 4th minute. The Taifa Stars striker sent his shot from outside the penalty area.
Mzize was finally blocked. A few seconds later, the Tanzanians charged Guinea again, thanks to a strike from Mudathiri Yahya. The latter also sent his shot from outside the Guinean area, but was blocked.
Behind, Guinea seemed to balance a match which leaned much more towards the Tanzanians, supported by a stadium of 60,000 supporters in Daré es Salaam. But that did not prevent Samatta from doubly charging the opposing camp with two shots in the space of 4 minutes.
In the 32nd minute, François Kamano reacted for Syli, but his attempt from outside the Tanzanian area proved too weak to cause concern. The last hot action of the period was that led by the inevitable Mzize. The Taifa Stars striker missed the opener by sending a header far from the Guinean frame.
A rather irregular event then occurred in the 37th minute. Mzize refused to go out after feeling physically distressed. He literally dismayed his coach, Hemed Suleiman, by turning around on his way out of the field.
It was an incredible situation, but it did not distract the Taifa Stars. The score was ultimately 0-0 at the break, despite Tanzania’s domination. A break which announced a second period even more electric than the first.
Saimon Msuva saves in the second half
The second half began with the replacement of Mzize by Kibu Denis. His coach had to restore discipline in the ranks of the Taifa Stars before the resumption of the ticket to the CAN. Moreover, this change did not shake Tanzanian domination.
Five minutes after the restart, Saimon Msuva missed a huge opportunity in the 51st after sending a shot into the top of the Guinean frame. He had to take advantage of an incredible pass from Denis, coming from the left and which put him face-to-face with Moussa Cámara, the Syli goalkeeper.
In the 55th minute, Samatta found himself on the ground following a collision with Abdoulaye Touré in the Guinean area. The Taifa captain was about to take advantage of a corner from the right. The PAOK Salonika striker was able to recover from this fall and resumed the game.
With its endless pressing, Tanzania ended up finding a good loophole. Guinea cracked when Mudathir Yahya’s cross found Msuva, left alone in the Sily area. The Al Najma striker in Bahrain sent an unstoppable helmet strike into the Guineans’ net. 1-0 in favor of Tanzania!
Incidentally, this goal brought incredible fervor to the Benjamin Mkapa stadium. The Tanzanian supporters jubilantly gave their voice. This was more of a psychological blow to Syli, who had difficulty finding his usual playing tactics.
A reaction from Guinea after the goal conceded was expected in the match, in vain. Less served and little found in this match, Serhou Guirassy was transparent during the game. The Borussia Dortmund striker was therefore unable to prevent the 1-0 defeat against Tanzania.
With this 1-0 victory, Tanzania eliminates Guinea and qualifies for CAN 2025, with 10 points in second place in Group H, behind the DRC (12 points and a match in hand). Syli finally occupies third place with 9 points.
